President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Dr Doyin Salami as the Chief Economic Officer, the Media adviser, announced this appointment on Tuesday, 4th January 2022. 

Why it matters. 
Since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office in May 2015, the office of the Chief Economic Officer has been vacant. The duty of the Officer is to study local economic issues, monitor international economic trends and make recommendations or policies in that regard. 

His office prioritizes economic growth, financial stability of the country, develops poverty eradication schemes and many more. 

Dr Salami, before the appointment, was the Chairman of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC). The 59 years old is also the Managing Director and Head Markets Practice at KAINOS Edge Consulting Limited. He is a high-profile economist, amongst many other things.
