The social media app, Snapchat, which has a global base of 332 million users has announced the launch of a paid subscription package called Snapchat+. The company is following the paths of other social media giants, including Twitter, Telegram and WhatsApp, who have announced paid plans. Snapchat is offering exclusive features at a price of $3.99 a month.

The features

  • Snapchat+ enables an account owner to know which user re-watched the account owner’s uploaded stories.
  • Another distinguishing feature of Snapchat+ is the ability to customize the app’s icon. Also, Snapchat+ will grant a special badge to subscribers and allow subscribers to pin a friend as the number one friend.
  • Where a friend shares their location with a subscriber, the latter can see “the general direction of travel to where friends have moved recently.”

What they are saying
At the launch of Snapchat+, the company disclosed that the need for a subscription-based package was to grant a collection of exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features to the apps most passionate community. The social media app further lamented that the war in Ukraine has played a role in dipping its revenue targets even though it recorded revenue growth in Q1 2022.

What you should know

  • For now, the subscription-based plan would be available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
