Folashade Oluwafemiayo of Team Nigeria won the gold medal and a new world record in the women’s heavyweight powerlifting competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Oluwafemiayo won the competition by lifting 155 kg, a new world record.

The Paralympic champion won the Commonwealth Games’ inaugural gold medal. Bose Omolayo of Team Nigeria earned the silver medal with a 145kg lift. Hani Watson of Australia took home the bronze with a 127kg lift.

Other Highlights
With a lift of 190 kg, Innocent Nnamdi also won the bronze medal for men’s lightweight. Thomas Kure, a fellow countryman, came in fourth place.

Ikechukwu Obichukwu won silver in the men’s heavyweight powerlifting with a lift of 190 kg.

From three Powerlifting competitions, Team Nigeria has now taken home four medals.
