The People’s Democratic Party has announced the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as the running mate of the party’s presidential flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.

Confirming the news, the former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, tweeted expressing his happiness at the choice of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, stating that he is looking forward to touring the country with the sitting governor.

- Inside sources claim that the PDP’s presidential flag bearer and the party preferred Gov Ifeanyi Okowa to Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Gov Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom. Other politicians rumoured to be in contention were Anyim Pius Anyim and Senator Ken Nnamani.
- Gov Nyesom Wike was the chief rival to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar at the party’s presidential primaries, in which the latter secured the presidential ticket.
