The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko said in a media address on Thursday that 47,975 terrorists in the North-East region of Nigeria have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the past six months. 

What’s he’s saying 
Onyeuko said the troops have profiled the surrendered terrorists and their families and handed them over to the appropriate agencies for further action. Also, they have sent the items recovered from the bandits to the appropriate authorities. 

  • Onyeuko said the Nigerian troops commit themselves to defending the country against terrorists and other enemies that pose a threat to the country. 

By the numbers 
Nigeria’s military force has in the last six months killed 17 bandits and arrested 35 while recovering 34 AK47, five Dane guns, and nine locally made guns. The troops situated at different stations have also seized 270 rustled cows, three motorcycles and 13 bicycles used for movement. 

  • In the last two weeks, Nigerian troops have rescued 27 civilians with about 7000 terrorists surrendering.
