The President of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke has on Monday announced that the union is embarking on a four weeks strike action.
Why it matters?
The union and the Federal Government have been at loggerheads for some time now. The union claims that some of its unaddressed issues date as far back as 2009. Again, according to the union, a Memorandum of Action which was signed by both the Federal Government and the union in 2020 has not been acted on by the Federal Government.
Some issues tendered by the union are failure of the Federal Government to sign and implement the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement, failure to adopt the Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), non-payment of withheld salaries, checkoffs and promotion arrears.
Following the lingering of the tussle between ASUU and the Federal Government, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union in universities nationwide has embarked on a four weeks strike.
