The Academic Staff Union of Universities in its last media briefing has said that the negotiations with the committee headed by Prof. Nimi Briggs have been encouraging.

In a tweet, the National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke expressed optimism that the negotiations between the union and the seven-man team inaugurated by the federal government and headed by Prof. Nimi Briggs has been progressive.

Why it matters 
The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, stated that the committee representing the federal government has a duty to renegotiate the terms of the 2009 federal government/ASUU agreement. They are also to submit a report within three months of their inauguration, of which they are in the last month of the three having been inaugurated in March. 

Quick catch-up 
ASUU has been on strike since February 14th 2022, following the non-payment of funds in several agreements between the union and the federal government. After a one-month strike and a two-month extension, ASUU embarked on a 12 weeks strike from the 10th of May 2022.
