Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has given away $6 billion worth of shares to his Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As a result, Indian businessman Gautam Adani with a net worth of $112 billion now ties Bill Gates in fifth place on the list of world’s richest people.

While the Indian billionaire clinched fifth place on the world’s richest list by gaining $35.6 billion in 2022, the co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates dropped to fifth place by giving away a substantial amount of his wealth to charity. 

Notable charity donations in 2022 
Some of the world’s richest people have donated heavily to humanitarian causes in 2022. The Indian billionaire Gautam Adani on his 60th birthday in June promised to donate $7.7 billion to a charity. Bill Gates earlier in the month promised to donate $20 billion to his foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This figure is $5 billion, more than the $15 billion the tech guru and his ex-wife gave to the foundation in 2021. 

Warren Buffett, the serial investor who now ranks as the seventh richest man in the world, has given over $35 billion to charity, including a $3.1 billion donation back in June.
