The story so far
The ruling party in Nigeria, APC, has appeared more divided than ever as several conspiracies have originated at the party since the turn of the year. While the chairman of the committee (CECPC) tasked with planning the national convention was on a medical trip in the UK, the party faithfuls appointed Governor Sani Bello of Niger State as the chairman of the committee. This decision sparked division in the party as some executives of the party didn’t back the appointment.
Governor Sani Bello, in his time as acting chairman, trimmed the CECPC from being a 1000-member committee, to a little over 100. The committee also signed a document unseating the official committee’s secretary, Senator Joseph Akpanudoedehe.
Current situation
Mai Mala Buni’s first official statement on his return from his medical trip was that every decision the acting chairman Governor Sani Bello took in his absence remains valid. The Yobe State Governor claims he officially handed power over to the acting chairman, Governor Sani Bello.
President Buhari appealed to the APC governors and other party executives to allow the national chairman to continue his duties.
Implications
With this discovery, the acting chairman, Governor Sani Bello, would return power back to the national chairman. Also, the National Convention scheduled for March 26th would continue as stated. And all officials removed from the planning committee comply with the directives.
