A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday has rejected the bail application of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.
Why it matters?
Abba Kyari’s lawyer filed for bail on the 21st of February 2022 on health grounds. The lawyer claimed that the disgraced “super cop” was suffering from diabetes and hypertension and, as such, requires the attention of a doctor. The court order ruled in favor of the drug agency, stating that the suspect would remain in their custody for 14 days until the agency concluded its investigation.
The bail application was further rejected by Justice Inyang Ekwo, who said that Abba Kyari’s bail request was overtaken by the sister court decision on the 22nd of February. The judge ruled that the suspect would remain in NDLEA’s custody until the suspect’s fundamental rights hearing on March 15th which is also the 14 days period.
