Crisis has hit the Governor’s arm of the All-Progressive Congress (APC) over the next party convention where the next national party chairman would be decided. Several Governors who spoke to the media are of the opinion that the elected chairman would be very crucial to the party keeping the presidential seat come 2023.
The Big Picture.
The party inaugurated a Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) chaired by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni to oversee the planning of the National Convention earlier stated for February.
Having failed to fix a date, several divisions had developed, including a faction committee of the CECPC headed by Mustapha Audu urging the Chairman of CECPC to vacate the party secretariat, as he has proven incapable of heading the affairs regarding the party convention.
Other issues include tussle for the national coordinator seat, party members prioritizing individual agendas over party goals, court cases, deliberation on holding primaries before convention, etc.
An intervention meeting scheduled to hold on Sunday, 9th January 2022, was canceled by the Yobe State Governor but is reported to hold on Wednesday, this week.
These events further prove the widening cracks in the Camp of the All-Progressive Congress despite the appeal of President Buhari to maintain peace and unity during his last media chat.
