The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami has on Monday said that over 70 million people have registered and got their National Identification Number as of 10th December 2021.
Why it matters?
Dr Isa Pantami said as at September 2020, the number of registered NIN holders was 40 million. This number has almost doubled since that time in little over a year as the number of holders totals 70 million in December 2021.
The Director-General of the National Identity Management Agency, Aliyu Azizhad earlier said that the agency has a 200 million target for NIN holders.
Speaking on the 5G technology, Dr Isa said “We have already made several giant strides in the development of our digital economy and the deployment of 5G networks will further support our efforts.”
