The President said this in a response letter to the National Assembly following the passing of the Dec 19th deadline. The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed the letter to the Senate, while speaking to a correspondent of the Punch Newspaper.
Mr Garba said President Buhari believes it is not constitutional to enforce direct primaries on political parties. He added, the President advised that “the lawmakers to look at the clause that has to do with direct primaries by political parties, work on it and return the document for assent because it will compound insecurity in the country.”
