Today, Thursday, 20th January 2022, members of the House of Representatives have passed the revised electoral bill into law.

The lawmakers passed the electoral bill into law after removing the compulsory use of direct primaries by political parties. The House of Assembly and House of Representatives agreed to this decision, as they both deleted the column of compulsory use of direct primaries.

This decision aligns with President Muhammadu Buhari’s advice on including both direct and indirect primaries in the revised electoral bill. The President made gave this advice while speaking on a televised interview with channels television. Political parties will now be allowed to use whichever means they choose to conduct their primary elections.
