The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected Senator Godswill Akpabio as the senatorial flag bearer of the All-Progressive Congress (APC) in a re-run primary for Akwa Ibom North-West (Ikot Ekpene) senatorial district.

Commenting on the news during a press briefing with newsmen on Sunday, the resident electoral commissioner for Akwa Ibom, Mr. Mike Igini, disclosed that the electoral commission is not aware of the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio in a re-run primary election on Thursday 9th June 2022.
- The INEC official further explained that the commission’s personnel monitored Akwa Ibom North-West primary election on May 27th 2022 and has submitted the result to its headquarters in Abuja.

Akwa Ibom’s State APC Chairman, Stephen Ntukekpo, claims that the party’s National leadership asked the state chapter to re-run the senatorial primary election due to the insecurity that threatened the initially held election.
