The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has announced new dates for the 2023 general elections. 

The Big Picture. 
Following the signing of the electoral bill into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, the electoral commission released new dates for presidential election, gubernatorial election, and state houses of assembly elections. The commission also incorporated the amended sections of the electoral laws in the electoral constitution for the 2023 election.

At the announcement of the new date for the 2023 general elections, the chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday, will be held on February 25, 2023. The gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, 14 days later.

INEC also announced important electoral dates such as party primaries and resolution of disputes, Monday, April 4, 2022, to Friday, June 3, 2022. Also, the submission of nomination forms to INEC on the portal for Presidential and National Assembly election–9.00 am on Friday, June 10, 2022, to 6.00 pm on Friday, June 17, 2022.
