The National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, on Monday in the Federal Capital received a donation of 3 million doses of Covid-19 from the Italian government.
Current situation
The latest donation by the Italian government raises the number of Covid-19 vaccines received from European Union member states to 20 million doses. The 20 million doses represent 61% of the total number of Covid-19 vaccines donated to the country through the COVAX facility.
By the numbers
Statistics on 11th April, 2022 shows that in Nigeria over 13.5 million or 12.2% of the eligible population are fully vaccinated. On the other hand, about 23 million people, or 18% of the eligible population in Nigeria, have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Executive Director NPHCDA, Dr Faisal Shuaib while speaking at the event in Abuja, praised the Italian government for the donations and for playing its role in achieving the global goal of fair access to COVID-19 vaccines. He assured the international delegates present at the occasion that the vaccines were being properly handled with an effective tracking system to provide accountability of these resources.
Meanwhile
Nigeria has in the last week lifted the compulsory use of nose masks in public places and withdrawn PCR tests for fully vaccinated inbound travelers in a bid to return the country to normalcy. The Federal Government also lifted the ban on parties and gatherings in the country.
