The Lagos State Government has on Tuesday released a white paper on the report presented to it by the judicial panel set up to review the Lekki Toll Gate shooting.
Why it matters?
Following the violence that occurred at the Lekki Toll Gate on the 20th October 2020, the Lagos state government set up a judicial panel to review the incident. The Judicial panel then reported to the Lagos State Government, which summarized its findings and investigations.
The leaked panel report says that there were 48 casualties at the protest ground on the 20th of October 2020 when soldiers were dispersing the protesters. The 48 casualties include 24 gunshot injuries, 15 unlawful assaults and nine deaths.
In response to this report, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu released a White Paper which regarded the death of nine people as the panel said as “assumption and speculation”.
