The House of Representatives has tasked a committee to investigate the incompleteness of a 2012 gully erosion awarded to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Why it matters?
At a plenary on Tuesday, Hon. Dennis Idahosa moved a motion to address the gully erosion problem rampaging the University of Benin and its surrounding villages. The Senator highlighted the damage this erosion has caused to the affected areas infrastructure and ecology, stating that the erosion has caused hardship to lecturers, students and residents plying the route.

In response, the House tasked its NDDC committee with uncovering the 2012 erosion contract awarded to the NDDC. It also called on the Ecological Fund Office and the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), to work together to establish alternative and permanent solutions to the menace. The house then urged the Ministry of Works and Housing and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to ensure access to the Federal University and other affected areas.
