Members of the House of Assembly have transmitted the revised electoral bill to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent after weeks of deliberations.

Why it matters?
President Muhammadu Buhari withheld his assent from the electoral Act following his concerns over the possibility of enforcing direct primaries, amongst other issues. Members of the House of Representatives and House of Assembly then reworked the bill to suit both Houses and the President and passed it on the 25th of January 2022.

Part of the corrections made to the bill by the lawmakers includes inserting indirect primary as an electoral option and consensus means of adopting aspirants by parties. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Babajide Omoworare, then received the bill.
