The Nigerian Governors Forum has announced the donation of N50 million to the victims of the Kaduna Train attack.
Driving the news
The Governors made the donation through the Kaduna State government, led by Gov Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, for immediate distribution to the recent victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.
- Presidential aspirant Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on a condolence visit to the Kaduna State government a few weeks back, also donated N50 million to the victims.
What they are saying
The Chairman of the forum and the Governor of Ekiti, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who led a two-man delegation to Kaduna State, described the recent attack as “mind-boggling”. He encouraged his colleague, Gov El-Rufai, not to relent in his efforts to end insecurity in the state and the region.
- Gov El-Rufai in his speech said that the attack was avoidable as the state government had earlier warned the Nigerian Railway Corporation of an impending attack.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai disclosed that 61 of the victims, including a top government official and his 8-month pregnant wife, were recuperating from injuries sustained in the attack. Reports also say the federal government has begun negotiations with the abductors of the passengers of the victimized train.
The relatives of the abducted victims are protesting against reopening the railway lines for train services without ensuring the safe return of their loved ones.
