The Niger state governor – Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello

The Niger state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, through his chief press secretary, Mrs. Mary Noel-Berje, has announced Thursday, 30th June, 2022 and Friday, 1st July, 2022 as a public holiday for the residents in the state to take part in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

What they are saying 
The governor stated, “this is in view of the critical need for all Nigerlites of 18 years and above to register and obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).”

  • Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, also directed all state officials, including commissioners, special advisers, etc to sensitize their respective local governments on the need to register and get their permanent voters’ cards.

What you should know 

  • The declaration of a public holiday by the Niger State government to enable residents to register their permanent voters’ card (PVC) is in line with similar acts by the Zamfara and Bauchi State governments. 
  • The latest statistics released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as of 7:00am Monday, 27th June 2022 shows that fresh registrants of the ongoing voters’ registration had hit 10,487,972. 
  • INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu also confirmed that Nigeria’s registered voters of 84 million registrants are 11 million more than the registered voters of 14 other countries in the West African and Sahel region.
