In an airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force on bandits at Nigeria’s boundary, a Nigerian fighter jet mistakenly killed seven children and wounded about five others.

This unfortunate event was reported by Chaibou Aboubacar, Governor of the Maradi region in Nachade, Niger Republic. According to the report, a fighter jet flew over the region surveying the area which is situated a few kilometers from the Nigerian border. It then did a second round, in which the jet deployed its ammunition. The region is one that shares boundaries with Kano State and has in recent times experienced growing concerns of insurgency.
Nigerian authorities have, in response to this sad event, said it was investigating to know the next steps to take. Spokesman of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said he would respond to enquiries as soon as they learn more.
