The chairman of the presidential steering committee (PSC), on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, says fully vaccinated travelers coming into Nigeria would no longer require a pre-departure PCR COVID test result from April 4th.
Why it matters
This action would list Nigeria alongside 54 other countries which do not require a pre-departure PCR test. On the list are European countries such as France, Switzerland and Germany.
Driving the news
Boss Mustapha said in a media briefing that this action is following the review of the global covid situation on international travels. This revised action would take effect from April 4th.
- Fully vaccinated travelers would take a rapid antigen test by NCDC officials at the hall of the airport for free.
- Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers would take a COVID-19 PCR test 48 hours before departure or a day 2 and day 7 test on arrival in Nigeria. In either case, they would charge travelers a fee.
The big picture
With the significant decline in covid cases in the country and globally, Nigeria, like many other countries, is relaxing its covid health protocols.
