The Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police Force, Usman Baba, has ordered the immediate ban of spy vehicle plate numbers in the country. This order revokes the security privileges that VIPs, staff of companies, etc. enjoy as a result of the license.
Why this is happening
The Nigerian Inspector-General of Police in the statement revoking the license disclosed that the privileges accompanying the plate number has worrisomely resulted in a complete disregard for traffic rules and regulations and other existing road laws.
What the Inspector-General said
The IGP directed all “Commissioners of Police in the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police, to give full effect to the directives as contained above.”
- Nigeria’s IGP Usman Baba also directed the AIGs and CPs in the various states in the country “to ensure that all SPY number plates currently in use are confiscated henceforth but the owners of such vehicles should not be arrested unless they are police officers or officers of other security agencies on escort duties.”
