The National Labour Congress, led by Ayuba Wabba, has said it would not accept the planned increase in fuel prices. While speaking in a statement, the associated has demanded that the Federal Government explore other options.

Why it matters?
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr Zainab Ahmed while speaking at the World Bank Development Event earlier in this week, said that the Federal Government is planning to remove fuel subsidy and this would take effect from February 2022. Also, the Federal Government is seeking a new loan to pay the poorest citizens a transport palliative of N5000 to ease the effect of the financial burden.
 

In response to this development the National Labour Congress the President of the Congress said “The conversation between the government and the people of Nigeria, especially workers under the auspices of the trade union movement on the matter of fuel subsidy was adjourned sine die so many months ago”.
 

He further stressed that the high value of dollar to Naira would further increase the financial implication of the average person.
