Hon. Galadima Abba Itas, the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) North-East Zonal Treasurer, has resigned from the party in Bauchi State.
Situation arising
In his letter of resignation dated Tuesday, July 12, 2022, and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Itas, Itas-Gadau local government area of the State, he stated that his decision to resign was the result of extensive consultations with his throngs of supporters and political allies as well as in response to the unfair and unjust treatment meted out to Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, both during and after the PDP special national convention,
According to news sources, Governor Wike was the PDP’s runner-up in the primary election and a candidate for president in the 2023 elections. He lost to Atiku Abubakar.
In his words
He continued, “Equally, the unconventional choice of His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the presidential candidate’s running mate opposes my political ideas and ideologies, thus solidifying my decision to resign.”
The “unjust and unfair” treatment of the party’s founding members, he continued, presented a serious threat to the collective political interests of leaders and people similar to him, prompting his departure in protest of the manner in which events are playing out in the opposition party.
The party’s current state “does not inspire confidence that the party is poised to win power in 2023,” Abba continued.
