President Muhammadu Buhari has accused the members of the National Assembly of removing certain capital projects and including N887 billion into the 2022 budget before passing it into law.

During the plenary session, Senate President Ahmad Lawan read the letter by President Buhari requesting the lawmakers to amend the 2022 Appropriation Act it passed last December. In the letter, President Buhari requested the lawmakers remove duplicated capital projects in the 2022 Appropriation Act. President Buhari cried out that of the 254 projects in the 2022 budget, the lawmakers identified about 139 projects to be deleted.

Another issue identified by the President was that the lawmakers should amend the Act to fund the capital expenditure of N106,161,499,052 billion; and N43,870,592,044 billion for recurrent expenditure. Other issues voiced by President Buhari were the request to approve N2.557 trillion to fund fuel subsidy, and include four capital projects of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources totaling N1.4 billion.
