On Wednesday 9th December, authorities in Saudi Arabia placed travel restrictions on airlines from Nigeria because of the omicron variant.
The Big Picture.
Since the World Health Organization declared the Omicron variant, which was found in the South African region as a “variant of concern”, countries have been taking precautionary measures to tackle this health risk.
Saudi Arabia authorities have restricted airlines from entering the country from Nigeria. They are the third country to do so after Canada and the United Kingdom.
In the statement, the authorities also announced that they have restricted Nigerians from coming into the country directly or indirectly. It added that only people coming “who stopped over in another country for 14 days after leaving Nigeria, will gain entry into Saudi Arabia.”
