On Thursday morning, just as shop owners were arriving at the popular Balogun market in Lagos state, sounds of tears filled the air as shops worth millions of naira burnt down. This is the second fire outbreak Lagos state is experiencing in less than one week.

Driving The News. 
Reports say that the fire which started around midnight mostly affected shops selling bags and shoes. This horrific event is happening with nine days to Christmas and when sales are at its peak in the year.

In Punch Newspaper’s interview with Iya Akande, a victim of the incident, she said, “I just came to the market to open my shop and saw many traders crying. I looked up and saw that our goods have been gutted by fire. We are in trouble. Many of us took loans to get goods so that we can make much profit during this festive period.”
