The spokesperson of the British High Commission, Dean Hurlock, has on Sunday said that the UK will not reverse its travel restriction placed on Nigeria because of the Nigerian Government threats.

Why it matters?
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika said in a leaked audio last week that the Federal Government will ban flights from Canada, UK, Argentina and Saudi Arabia. This action by the Federal Government is a retaliation for placing Nigeria on a red list, which bans Nigerian flights from entering their country.

During an interview with a correspondent from Punch Newspaper, the spokesperson said the UK will not reverse its decision because of this retaliatory move. He added that, “The UK Government proposes sticking to our standard background lines.”

Earlier last week, the British High Commissioner of Nigeria, Catriona Laing, had said that the travel restrictions are temporary measures to reduce the spread of Omicron variant and that the country will review this decision in three weeks’ time, that is 20th of December.
