The University of Ibadan has clinched first place as the best university in Nigeria for 2021, according to the Nigerian System of Rankings. Coming closely behind are Redeemers university and Covenant university.

Founded in 2001, these rankings have served as the benchmark for how well universities are performing in the Higher Education sector.
The Nigerian System of Rankings does these rankings to compare the relative strength of Nigerian universities, show the excellence of universities in Nigeria, and to offer guidance to the government in planning schemes and programs for universities in the country. The ranking, which was carried out using 12 indicators, involved 113 universities.
Other universities that made the top ten are Ladoke Akintola University, Federal University of Technology Akure, Afe Babalola University, University of Ilorin, Babcock University, Landmark University, and Edo State University.
