The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has on Wednesday morning confirmed an attack on Kuje prison, a correctional facility located in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. The NCoS spokesperson, Umar Abubakar, disclosed in a statement that unidentified gunmen carried out the attack, which occurred in the late hours of Tuesday.

How it happened 
An anonymous source who spoke to newsmen said that the gunmen broke into the prison with the use of bombs, rifles and other weaponry and operated for over 2 hours and 45 minutes. The source claimed that the attack by the unidentified gunmen further led to the escape of over 300 prison inmates. 

What they are saying 
A spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, AD Uma while briefing reporters said swiftly responding to the incident, men of the Armed Squad of the Nigerian Correctional Service and other security agencies attached to the Custodial centre had restored calm to Kuje prison.
