Nigeria has destroyed over 1m doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine donated to it following their expiration.
Why it matters?
Vaccines have been and continue to be an effective way to increase one’s chances against contracting coronavirus. To aid countries fight the virus, foreign powers have donated millions of vaccine doses to low-income countries.
The Federal Government, through National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, on Wednesday, 22nd December destroyed 1,066,214 doses of Astrazeneca vaccines donated to it.
Speaking at the destruction site in Abuja, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Executive Director, Dr Faisal Shuaib, said the decision to destroy these vaccines is coming as a promise to keep handling vaccines transparent. He added that Nigerians can trust the agency vaccination program.
