Health researchers have said that they have discovered a gene that can reduce the impact of Covid-19 by 20%. They said this gene can help scientists create a drug that will be much more effective against coronavirus.

According to scientists, the gene breaks down the virus SARS-CoV-2 into protein, improving the body’s defense against the severity of the virus. Nature Genetics said they found this gene in 8 out of 10 individuals with African background. Researchers in Karolinska, Sweden say they found it in 1 out of 3 white individuals with European ancestry.
Co-author of the research, Brent Richards, of McGill University said that they are studying the gene to develop new drugs that will help the fight against Covid-19.
