The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, has said Nigerian-based tech companies won 60 percent ($1.7 billion) of $2.9 billion funding to Africa by the United States.

While speaking at a tech event in Abuja, Mary Beth praised Nigerian startups for their several talents in finding solutions to the daily lives of Nigerians. She specially mentioned OPAY, Flutterwave and Interswitch, which are purely Nigerian startups.
She reassured Nigerians that the US will continue to support Nigerian startups to become a global brand.
She said “The U.S. Mission will continue to do its part to support Nigeria’s burgeoning tech scene and encourage the creation of enabling environment necessary to foster a sector that will, in turn, launch still more global businesses and contribute to a more prosperous future for all its citizens.”
